Mythological Vehicles - Sawari.

Each god or devta is associated by an animal on which he is seen travelling the whole world. This animals may be wild or domestic. Animals for specific gods and goddesses is ideally decided by the nature and teachings of that particular god.

The animals that are linked with devi- devtas always depict the nature of the god with which it is linked. Like , the bull with Lord shiva etc.

The Bull - Lord Shiva

Lord Shiva in the same is linked by a bull. The lord is always shown with a bull who normally play a vital role in his life by acting as his vehicle , family member and a friend. The name of Shiva's vahan is Nandi. Nandi depicts the domestic and calm nature of lord Shiva and also shows that Shiva is man with family. He is many times depicted as a gatekeeper of Lord shiva's home and is seen outside the shivalay (Shiva's place) in the temple. He controls all the external affairs on Kailash.
